Jesus-Shaped Marriage

Part of the Exile: Lessons for Life on the Outside series.
One of the more uncomfortable experiences of our exile is realizing that we live in tension with the surrounding culture. We’re different in large part from our friends and neighbors because we no longer share the same story: the narrative that gives our lives meaning has changed. The stories we used to follow (be they of family, social, political, or even religious themes) have given way to the Gospel: the story of Jesus Christ, suffering for sinners. The difference this different story makes is especially apparent when we consider gender relationships, specifically the way that husbands and wives are to relate to one another. The Apostle Peter continues his discussion of what it means to emulate Jesus in our daily lives, this time in our most intimate relationship.
